If you’re a fan of AMD gaming laptops, then it’s time to find something right away. AMD laptops come with a great performance, offering top class workability with the power of all Cores.

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 is one of the best choices that you can make when you need a high performing AMD gaming laptop. The interesting element about it is this gaming laptop is coming with great specs under £1000. Let’s take a look at whether or not does this laptop proves it is worth:

Specs Overview

Let’s take a look at the specs of ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 2.30 GHz processor, 4.0 GHz max turbo speed
  • Quad-Core processor
  • 15.6” full HD IPS panel display
  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660Ti Max 1 GDDR6 dedicated GPU
  • 8Gb RAM, 512GB SSD

Design

The chassis is lightweight as compared with other laptops of the similar tier. The aluminium lid finish is superb, and you also get additional openings for airflow on the top of the keyboard. Apart from that the hinges are small and come with minimal creaking. You get RJ-45 port HDMI, USB C and display port. However, it lacks Thunderbolt 3 and SD card reader.

Performance

The performance comes from its AMD Ryzen 7 processor, which is a great upgrade considering its previous generations. Apart from 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD, you also get the boost from ASUS turbo mode that allows reaching performance benchmarks. The power is similar to Armoury Crate software but will also increase the fan noise.

You get both single and multithreaded processing power and it allows to handle multitasking seamlessly. The performance is amazing; however, the Zephyrus G14 with AMD Ryzen 9 was only 10% faster in terms of benchmarks. This system also came neck to neck with the 10th Gen Core i7 gaming laptop. No hardware or software issue was seen during a system evaluation.

Apart from that, the performance of NVidia GTX 1660 Ti Max Q is unmatched. Though you don’t get the explicit crispiness of RTX GPUs. Therefore, if you’re in need of ray tracing enabled graphics, then you might as well upgrade on the GPU. As for its gaming performance, this gaming laptop was able to provide about 10-35% more performance than its predecessors.

Display

The 15.6” FHD screen comes with IPS panel and 144Hz refresh rate. This was improved from the previous versions where the screen had 60Hz. Apart from that, the colour spacing is narrower but there’s visible ghosting. You can also get the 240Hz display that brings 3ms response time, 100% sRGB colour coverage. The 144Hz unit comes with 58% colour coverage and 15ms response time.

Apart from that, the 144Hz unit comes with 250nits brightness levels which is lower than the usual 300 nits, giving poor brightness for outdoor usage. the viewing angles are somewhat alright.

Keyboard & Trackpad

There’s isn’t backlighting, which is truly a turnoff in terms of gaming appeal. The keyboard hasn’t been updated and is similar to previous versions. The keys are shallower and spongier which do not offer comfortable typing. Apart from that, you get auxiliary keys and an extra column of keys that provide somewhat appeal.

For the precision click pad, you get medium to high speeds while gliding on it. You can also adjust to slower speeds depending upon your need. The integrated mouse isn’t comfy and brings weak and spongy feedback

Battery

If you’re looking for something that would last as long for your gaming as any notebook, then this isn’t the right choice for you. Even with its balanced profile, this laptop was able to give only 5 hours of battery life, which got exhausted when it was switched to a gaming profile. The recharging took 2 hours, which can be a hassle if you want something on the go.

Misc

You get Bluetooth 5.1 and WI-FI 6 connectivity speed that will boost the overall working experience. There isn’t any integrated webcam due to its slim bezel design and most likely will need an external webcam for it. The maintenance is easy; though you would need to open 15 screws from the lid to get in.

The fan noise isn’t much and you would not have any issue with it. However, heat may be some easy as the pal, rest and the centre of the keyboard may become heated.

Closing Note
